Sexuality
The general definition for ‘sexuality’, is “a person's sexual orientation or preference.”What is considered the norm in most countries, is to claim the sexuality of heterosexuality. Japan is a very homogenous country, and sticking out in the crowd is not necessarily sought after. Sexuality is something that is not generally spoken about, even though it is a vital characteristic that plays a role in all of our lives. Because information concerning this topic is not sufficiently provided in countries such as Japan, people are incapable of developing themselves sufficiently within their sexuality. What is sexuality?
Human sexuality is the way people experience and express themselves sexually. This involves biological, erotic, physical, emotional, social, or spiritual feelings and behaviors. The concept is quite broad, which doesn’t give it a determined definition. It is based on a lot of attributes, which makes it different depending on the person.
How many sexualities exist?
Sexuality is a term used to describe the way an individual experiences and expresses himself/herself sexually. This differs per person, and so we cannot give a definite number of sexualities in existence. However, to ease the process and to help people identify more with a group of people, there are terms used to describe people with similar sexual attributes.
Sexuality is a personal trait that completely depends on the concerning person. Not every person has the same sexual or romantic feelings towards a certain gender, and even deeper than that not every person has sexual or romantic feelings towards the same people within a gender. Feeling like you identify with anything else than heterosexuality is normal, and it is humanly, for we are all different. Overall, sexuality is a complex concept that differs per person. It is something that each person should have the right to claim, and feel comfortable with. We as Project Koe strive to make the Japanese people aware of this outlook on sexuality.
